“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Now, more than ever, we need to connect to that place of profound peace inside us. In order to respond to life’s challenges in a respectful and responsible manner, it is important to take time to visit the images or places that help us relax, refresh and strengthen our divine essence. To some, it is nature that brings forth renewal energy or it may be the image or presence of a loved one or cherished pet that fills our heart with loving. Others may turn to a spiritual connection with an image of Christ or Buddha or Muhammad, etc. to remember our spiritual heritage. Each time we visit these unlimited connections, we are surrounded by a loving presence that reminds us that we are truly blessed.

“Light of the World”
Oil on Linen Panel
30”x20”

When I was a child, I saw a picture of Christ holding a light and I was transfixed. It resonated with me at a very primordial level. As an adult, I am still drawn to the spiritual awareness it awakens in me so I decided to create my version of it. During the painting process, I was blessed with a profound energy filling and surrounding me. It brought forth an innate wisdom and knowing of my infinite and spiritual nature. I hope by hanging it on the wall and viewing it regularly, I will experience this deep connection often.

“The Annunciation”
Oil on Linen Panel
30”x24”

“The Annunciation” painting is a commissioned work of art.

This summer, I accepted a commission to paint the annunciation story which is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would conceive from the Holy Spirit and become the mother of Jesus. My patron asked that I paint purple roses instead of the traditional white lily. Frequently, roses mean loving and the purple rose is often referred to as the “mystical rose” and holds a special meaning to the buyer of this painting.

“Joan of Arc - The Calling”
Oil on Linen Board
16”x12”

“Joan of Arc - The Calling” is my interpretation of Joan of Arc when she begins hearing the voice of God and is unwavering in her following. I’ve tried to capture her purity in her morning garden as she prays with devotion and lovingly receives her inner calling.

“Joan of Arc - The Spiritual Warrior”
Oil on Linen Board
16”x12”

“Joan of Arc - The Spiritual Warrior” is painted in her full armor, chopped off hair, and symbolic saintly ring of light around her head. It is recorded that she said, “I was born to do this.” At any age, her journey is amazing but to begin hearing and welcoming God’s voice at 13 and lead the French army to victory in the 100 Year War at 16 is no small feat. And at 19, she was burned at the stake because she held to the Truth. Her willingness to follow God’s will is awe-inspiring and her fierce spirit is magnificent. To me, Joan represents humanity at its greatest.
